The difference between victim and victorious
Youth today need to feel more secure in the world - yet realize they are ultimately responsible for creating that security for themselves and others. To do this, they must learn to keep going through things that would hold them back. In a systematic, safe, and fun way, Spirit Quest will help youth explore and stretch the boundaries of their physical, mental, and spiritual selves.
Based on the self-protection system of To Shin Do, Spirit Quest is at its heart, the art of perseverance - key to youth threatened by poverty, tenuous family ties and violence in their neighborhoods. Spirit Quest has the power to transform lives by teaching young people to avoid negative forces while developing their own strengths – creating leaders and peacemakers dedicated to using their training to benefit the broader public.
The goal is for students to train two times a week - depending on program design and our partner's goals and objectives (in school settings, we have offered daily programming, and we can do special, one-time seminars in empowerment, etc.)
As Spirit Quest students advance they take responsibility for being a role model to those newer to the program. This brings out the natural leadership of advanced students in a systematic way, and allows them safe harbor to see their effect on other people.
